Consignment FAQ
What’s a consignor?
The consignor delivers goods to the consignee for sale. In a consignment contract, the consignee takes responsibility for the goods and sells them. Until the goods are sold, the consignor does not lose ownership of the goods.
What are the guidelines for consigners at Something Old + New?
Choosing to consign your apparel and decor at Something Old + New is a safe, eco-conscious, and easy way to give new life to the items that you carefully chose. If your apparel/decor is chosen to be featured in our event, we will take good care of it and work hard to make sure it finds the right home. We want this to be as effortless as possible - a low-stress event in what can be a high-stress time. No Facebook messages, or random shady Marketplace meet-ups, let us do the heavy lifting for you. Clear some space in your closet, help out a fellow bride, and regain some of the money you spent.
Ok - I’m interested in consigning my decor or apparel…how do I get started?
We accept wedding gowns, engagement dresses, veils, accessories, and gently used or never worn shoes, we cannot accept undergarments of any kind. If your gown has been worn, we require proof of dry cleaning with your application. We also offer a cleaning service if your dress is in need of it. The cost of drycleaning will be shared with you if your items are accepted and can be deducted from your profits or billed to you directly.
Fill out our application if you think your items are a good fit - we will reach out to you to schedule a 15-minute appointment to inspect the items, discuss pricing, set a timeframe, and fill out a short contract.
Items will be consigned up to 1 week after the event in your contract. If an item does not sell before or within 1 week of the event - you can opt into a markdown price of 15% for up to 3 months post-event.
How do I get paid?
All consignment is a 60-40 split in your favor. Paid within 4 weeks of the sale. Once your item sells, you will receive payment for 60% of the price. Checks are processed and issued as quickly as possible. Venmo and Paypal will expedite your payment.
Do you buy dresses and decor?
We only are able to offer consignment services at this time, we cannot buy any items from you directly.
Do you accept returns or exchanges?
All purchases are final sales and are not subject to refunds or exchanges.
How can I try on items?
For our pop-up event we will have dressing rooms as well as a seamstress on stand-by to help everyone find something perfect! If you are purchasing an item online afterwards - it will not be possible to try on items after the event, but we are happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have for an item!
What if I still have questions?
If you have any questions about the consignment process or are unsure if your item is something we will be able to accept into our inventory, please send us an email and include a photo to: info@somethingoldandnew.com
Terms of Use
A consignment agreement is a legally binding document between a consignee and a consignor for the sale, storage, transfer, resale, and use of a commodity. The consignee accepts goods from sellers to sell to potential buyers. The consignee will not receive commissions till the goods are sold. If the goods do not sell, they can be returned to the consignor. In contract law, consignment agreements contain language indicating that the retailer agrees to display the provided consigned items for a specific time period also known as the consignment period. The terms set out in the consignment agreement decide how the commodities will be marketed during the consignment period.
For each sale, the consignee will get a commission and pay the agreed-upon price to the consignor who provided the items for sale. The contract also determines how the unsold items will be returned or if the consignment period will be extended for those items.
Shipping & Delivery
Shipping and delivery outside of the pop-up event will be coordinated between the SO&N and the buyer. Something Old & New will provide shipping estimates and assist where possible.
